I am a parent carer to a young adult with complex needs. Before becoming a parent, I worked as cabin crew for a number of years exploring the world. My favourite place being Seville (worth a visit, if you can).
I completed a law degree in 2019, just before the pandemic and since then, I’ve seen my caring responsibilities and my battles for her increase.
I was born with congenital heart disease. I gained my first pacemaker following the birth of my daughter and in 2022 I suffered a pulmonary edema. My cardiologists opinion - brought on by the lack of sleep due to my caring role (and my daughters ill health at the time). I’m living with heart failure, whilst battling a system that creates too many challenges and expects too much from carers of disabled relatives.
I love writing and putting my life experiences or thoughts around the “world of disability” down on paper. I hope you’ll enjoy reading my blogs/articles and share them where you can.
Thank you
Rachel
